Soloman, Laura. The Librarian's Nitty-Gritty Guide to Social Media. Chicago: American Library Association, 2012. Print.
"Words to be tattooed upon the hearts of every worker charged with creating or maintaining a social-media presence for their library: “Many libraries do not understand that using social media successfully takes more than just having an account.” Solomon, chosen as one of Library Journal’s Movers and Shakers in 2010 and author of Doing Social Media So It Matters (2011), has expanded her previous title into The Librarian’s Nitty-Gritty Guide to Social Media. Three additional chapters, focused on “Fine-Tuning Facebook,” “Teens and Social Media,” and “Online Reputation Management,” round out a serviceable and basic guide to why and how libraries should approach social media as a tool to connect and communicate with patrons. Experienced users of social media may not find much new knowledge here, but the inclusion of sample policies, examples of strategies and practices that work and those that are destined for failure, and concise summaries at the end of each section should go a long way to dispel any lingering doubts about the necessity of libraries entering the world of social media." --Magan Szwarek
